The most easily accessible area is the coastal section with pretty towns and villages along route and the South West Coast Path starts at the traditional seaside resort of Minehead as well as the West Somerset Railway so serves as a great base to explore the whole region. At the centre of the National Park is Exmoor Forest the barest part of the moor and the village of Simonsbath stands in the middle of it at a crossroads between Lynton, Barnstaple and Minehead on the River Barle.
