The Pennine Way cuts through the heart of the Dales and another long distance footpath is the Dales Way which runs from Ilkley to Bowness-on-Windermere in the Lake District, many hikers tackle the famous Three Peaks Mountains Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside. The main touring cycle route is the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way a 130 mile circular route that starts and finishes at Skipton the southernmost town of the Dales. Grassington is the Dales main village its Georgian centre and cobbled Market Square are a delight with country inns, tearooms all within a short stroll. Wensleydale is probably the best known of the Dales probably for its cheese production whch can be viewed at the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes Wensleydales chief town and hiking centre. Ribblesdale sees the start of the Settle-Carlisle Railway which is often known as England's most scenic railway and can be used to access the Dales or for a relaxing scenic journey.
